609241 PS Cultural Studies: British and Anglophone Cultures: Gender in the Creative Industries
summer semester 2023 | Last update: 22.06.2023 | Place course on memo listStudents can work towards gaining an overview of gender-related aspects in various sectors of creative work in Britain. They can achieve a basic understanding of factors characterising inequalities within the cultural and creative industries as well as potentially gaining an insight into policies and initiatives promoting equality and diversity in these fields.
Through a range of readings from research into fashion design, television, musical entertainment and computer programming, we investigate into persistent gender inequalities in the creative industries, which, as per USECO report 2021, worsened in recent years. In doing so, we focus on modes of (uneven) representation, institutional structures, educational access and the everyday work in British creative industries, complementing discussions of demographic and socio-economic factors with such of policy making and self-directed initiatives aimed at fostering diversity.
Readings, discussions, and "expert sessions".
Self-directed discussions, active participation, term-paper.
Will be announced in the first session.
