This course is meant for students working on a larger research project (e.g. an MA thesis or Diploma dissertation). Students should already have some concrete ideas about their planned project, and they should have had at least preliminary consultations with their thesis supervisor. They will then get advice on how to develop their research questions and structure their thesis. We will discuss all theoretical and practical questions pertaining to thesis writing (from researching relevant material to managing procrastination). All participants will present and discuss their projects, and the course will end with a chapter workshopping session, where you can consolidate the progress on your thesis, discuss questions and problems, and advise each other.
discussions, short input on methods and pragmatic advice, presentations of work products like abstracts and outlines, writing clinic (chapter workshopping), peer mentoring
Continuous participation, writing samples (e.g. thesis abstract, outline, sample chapter)
Students should be at an advanced stage of their MA studies and should currently be planning to write a thesis in Anglophone literary or cultural studies (i.e. they should already have some ideas about the topic they will be writing on and have had at least one preliminary consultation with their thesis supervisor).
Teacher training (Lehramt) students are welcome to participate in this course if they are writing a thesis in literary studies (though there is no possibility of accruing the credit points, the course will still support your progress on you’re the thesis itself.
If the course does not show up in your curriculum on LFU, please contact the instructor to ask whether you can be enrolled manually.
