Deepening the knowledge of monuments of the early modern period (epoch-specific) in central and eastern Germany (geographical)

The "Deutscher Werkbund" and the "Staatliches Bauhaus" are linked by a variety of relationships: Personnel constellations, content-related goals as well as joint activities and projects often make the boundaries blurred. The Werkbund, founded in 1907, was an association with the goal of "refining" commercial work in the "interaction of art, industry and crafts" and creating quality products for all areas of the modern world, which were to be disseminated through "education and propaganda". The Bauhaus, on the other hand, was a school based on the principles of the School of Arts and Crafts founded by Henry van de Velde in Weimar in 1902. Both institutions were thus rooted in the arts and crafts movement of the 19th century. From the turn of the century until the rise of National Socialism, the Werkbund and Bauhaus succeeded in establishing a completely new culture of everyday life and industry that is still groundbreaking today. The excursion leads to the most important sites in Dresden, Weimar, Jena and Dessau, where milestones in the history of architecture and design will be visited, including the German Workshops in Hellerau (with Garden City and Festival House), School of Arts and Crafts and Nietzsche Archive in Weimar, Bauhaus school buildings and master houses in Dessau, as well as selected family homes
