619008 UE Methods of field Research (Practise)
summer semester 2023 | Last update: 25.04.2023 | Place course on memo listParticipants will be able to organize and conduct ethnomusicological field research. They will be able to make audio field recordings, carry out interviews and they know how to arrange research results in a report and/or public presentation
This year we will explore the question within Tyrol whether we can find traditional narratives (such as sagas) to which songs or music belong or, vice versa, whether we can record narratives to certain songs. Thematically, the stories and songs should revolve around the way (Tyrolean) people deal with the environment (with mountains, animals, plants, weather, mountain spirits, legendary figures, etc). Details are open and will be discussed between the course leader and students according to need and possibilities.
The project is specifically designed to be presented in educational work or exhibitions. Possibilities for sound exhibitions will be discussed and presented in any case; whether a public presentation is possible will become clear in the course of the work.
Participants organize their individual field trips. According to the methods explained, participants chose their methodological approach and the interpretation of the results. The individual projects will be discussed in the plenum und guided by the lecturer.
Immanent in course participation: final assessment depends on active participation, paper presentation, quality of conducting field research and the final research report.
will be presented during the course. Made accessible via OLAT or the library.
