Acquisition of advanced knowledge of selected topics of epochs and scientific discussion thereof.

"Medicine under National Socialism" - this very extensive title is explored in the introduction: What does it mean to deal with medicine during the Nazi regime, what pre- and post-history of medical science(s) has to be taken into account, what conclusions does the discussion bring at micro and macro level and why are they important today? In the course of the semester, central aspects of the topic are dealt with, such as the Nazi health policy surveillance of the population, their persecution and murder, medical research conditions under National Socialism, everyday medical life in civil society and in concentration camps, and career paths, opportunities and scope for action are presented using biographical approaches . How post-war society deals with medical research from the Nazi era, perpetrators and victims is also examined.

Lectures, reading and discussions

Students also will need to pass a final written exam to successfully complete the course.
