They have analytical and evaluation skills with regard to historical events and can reflect on them in the light of the present and open up connections.
They are able to outline the basics of Muslim historiography and can discuss and illustrate historical events and developments in detail.
Students are able to analyze, reflect and present historical figures as well as their teachings and contributions.
Furthermore, they are capable of establishing and reflecting on education and science from the Islamic tradition (history) to establish a contemporary reference.
The lecture outlines the period from pre-Islam to the present. The following thematic units are covered:
· The Pre-Islamic Age
· The Life of the Prophet Mohammad
· The Rashidun Caliphate
· The Ummayad dynasty
· The Abbasid dynasty
· The Aghlabids and the Fatimid dynasty
· The Ayyubid dynasty and the Mamluk
· The Almoravids and the Almohad Caliphate
· The Ghaznavid dynasty and the Ghurid dynasty
· The Seljuk dynasty
· The Ilkhahate, the Timurid dynasty and the Shibanids
· The Mughal Empire
· The Safavid dynasty and the Qajar dynasty
· The Ottoman Empire
· Islam in the Modern Age
The lecture gives an insight into Islamic history. Characteristics of different epochs as well as different descriptions of history are worked out.
