Acquisition of the skills to process information (sources and/or research literature) based on the scientific rules of the discipline and writing and presenting a historic paper on a selected topic of the sub-discipline.

The reception of antiquity is still of great importance today. An introduction first illuminates the factors that significantly influence reception and documents the creative appropriation of ancient content/elements. Some specific examples from the Alpine region show the instrumental use of such content/elements.  The focus is on the representation of Roman era in the Alpine region (Tyrol, Vorarlberg, Eastern Switzerland) in historical literature, especially in the 19th and 20th centuries. 

Motivated by local patriotism, religious sentiment and the search for one's own identity, the Roman era in the Alpine region was subject to an inexhaustible will to interpret and a continuous transformation of meaning.
