The reign of Elizabeth I of England from 1558 to 1603 was marked by several upheavals: the establishment of the Protestant Church of England, the foreign policy struggle against Spain and the beginning of England's colonial ambitions. At the same time, there were repeated internal crises of their rule. The proseminar will look at these phenomena on the basis of numerous sources and also ask how an overall interpretation of the epoch was and is made in literature, which is still considered an essential period of England's modernisation today.
In addition to reading sources and literature and interpreting them, the proseminar will also practise writing academic texts.
