645304 SE Bachelor Thesis Economic and Social History
summer semester 2023 | Last update: 30.05.2023 | Place course on memo listAbility to independently analyze and contextualize a topic from economic and social history according to the rules of the discipline; ability to independently research and evaluate sources and secondary literature relevant to the topic; solid competencies in writing historical essays (formulating, justifying and defending arguments).
In recent decades, interest has grown in the diverse interactions between humans and animals, their interdependencies, utility, and emotional relationships. The diverse human-animal relationships are also increasingly studied in historical disciplines. Whether as humanized playmates, maltreated beasts of burden, or as (exploited) providers of food and clothing, animals are an essential part of human existence. Social, cultural, and environmental historical approaches have shaped the discourse so far, but not least due to the pandemic, the topic has also become highly relevant in the history of medicine. Animals have come into focus as carriers, but also as victims of infectious diseases and have been contextualized as actors in epidemic events.
The seminar supports and accompanies the Bachelor thesis in terms of work and content: input from the course instructor, joint reading and discussion of scientific essays, written exercises, oral presentations.
Course immanent to the examination: regular attendance, active participation in discussions, oral presentation, composing and discussing a written concept and a Bachelor Thesis.
To be discussed at the outset of the course. Research of literature is also a part of the students' tasks.
