Reading and contextualisation of historiographical texts, Examination of the history of reception, interpretation with taking gender dimensions into account.

Overview and critical discussion of the concept intersectionality. Practice of key skills such as reading and interpretation skills, also using English texts.

In gender studies, the concept of intersectionality seeks to think together different axes of inequality, such as gender, race, class, religion, sexuality, or empowerment/disability. This class will provide an overview of the development of intersectional research and theory developed by Black feminist theorists. Conceptual, theoretical, and methodological issues as well as application/applicability in historical studies will be discussed.

Discussion of theoretical and methodological texts, reading, presentations of the texts and moderation of discussions by students, inputs from the course instructor, an oral assignment and a written assignment during the semester.

Attendance, continuous participation and active participation in discussion, moderating a discussion, essay or oral exam.
