Students will classify current research trends in the field of empirical posthumanism from a disciplinary historical perspective. Based on the reading of theoretical and methodological
treatises as well as empirical case studies on the topic, students will be able to develop questions and select appropriate methods in order to apply them to concrete fields of practice.

Recently, as European ethnologists, we have come to understand human beings in their posthuman condition, i.e., in their inextricable entanglement with non-, more-, or other-than-human entities. Therefore, we increasingly focus our attention on that which lies beyond the human being, but inevitably co-determines the experience of the world. In this sense, the ethnographic and analytical gaze beyond the human does not lead away from the human, as is occasionally assumed, but on the contrary opens up a new view of the human. However, what does it mean for ethnographers to do research beyond the human? What methods are available to them to encounter the posthuman in the field? In this seminar, we would like to explore the seat of the posthuman in the average everyday life and conduct ethnographies of posthuman worlds.
