The course in Atomic Physics for Quantum Science aims to create a thematic bridge between the atomic physics knowledge gained in VO Atomic and Molecular Physics (5th sememster BA) and the knowledge required for both the Bachelor's thesis in quantum physics and for advanced quantum physics Master's courses. PhD students with specialized brackground in other fields of physics or that want to refresh the knowledge on atom-light interactions are also welcome.

The course will cover the following topics:

 - From the Hydrogen  to atoms with multi-electrons (e.g. alkali, alkali earth, and more)

- Light-matter interaction (Optical Bloch equation, Rabi oscillations, atomic polarizability, Stark effects)

- Examples of modern quantum-physics experiments based on the of interaction between quantized atoms and laser light

- Rydberg atoms and their exceptional properties for Quantum Science

In presence lecture. For most of the lectures, written notes will be available on Olat

Final examination in one event (oral or written, depending on number of participants).

Highly recommended for Bachelor students in the 6th semester, parallel to their Bachelor thesis in quantum physics. Lecture is also well suited for 2nd semester Master students as preparation for the advanced quantum physics course.
