Students will comprehensively understand central theories of personality/personality disorders and their associated already established and newly developed diagnostic instruments. They will conceive the pros and cons of categorical/dimensional approaches. Students will further understand the relevance of psychodynamic approaches and be able to differentiate between concepts such as personality functioning level, psychological structure, and personality organization. Students will be aware of clinical challenges and relevant empirical research. Students will also be aware of required empirical research and have an appreciation of clinical challenges.

The seminar will address and clarify central theories of personality/personality disorders as well as the differences between categorical and dimensional approaches. Methods and instruments of diagnosing personality disorders/personality functioning will be introduced and trained in practice. The goal is to explore the central concepts of personality relevant to understanding diagnosis and critical issues arising during clinical psychological or psychotherapeutic work.

Seminar with oral essays and group discussions and hands-on excersices.

Grades will be given on the basis of the oral essays and participation to group discussions.

Central literature is in German and English
