summer semester 2023 | Last update: 24.11.2022 | Place course on memo listThe students should be enabled to implement and enforce the acquired knowledge about epidemiology, origins, development, etc. of suicide, suicidal behavior and prevention. Likewise, basal forms of intervention and dealing with acute suicidal people.
Suicide and suicidal behavior is a social problem. Every year more people die by from suicide than people in car accidents. In Austria, suicide is the second leading cause of death in the age group up to 40. However, suicide and suicidal behavior is hardly a social issue, rather taboo; comprehensive preventive approaches such as the salutogenetic approach are rare.
In the seminar, causes, theories of the origin, development and the course, forms of intervention and preventive measures are considered and discussed in detail. Another focus is the phenomenon of suicidality in children and adolescents with special reference to the controversial topic of new media and suicidality.
Lecture, case processing, presentations, discussion, exercises
Examinations using continuous assessment based on written and oral contributions. Written examination.
