summer semester 2023 | Last update: 11.10.2023 | Place course on memo listStudents develop competences on how to derive critical analyses, theoretical strands or approaches from the positions presented.
In the course Architectural Theory_1 (AT1 for short), students receive an overview of various positions in architectural theory between approx. 1750 and 1900.
The focus of the reflections is the topic of reform, i.e. the efforts of architects and other participants in the social, economic and cultural discourses to introduce improvements to and in our (built) living environments.
Each lecture is dedicated to a specific theme, e.g. "Architecture and Utopia", revolutionary architecture (Claude-Nicolas Ledoux, Étienne-Louis Boullée and Jean-Jacques Lequeu) and the so-called early socialist utopians (Robert Owen and Charles Fourier).
