At this level the learner can understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts, and recognise implicit meaning; he/she can express themselves fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions; he/she can use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes; he/she can produce clear, well-structured, detailed texts on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organisational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices.
Topics:
photos and hobbies; emotions; presentations; inventions and technology; physical activities, health, and lifestyle; city life, urban spaces, and architecture; special occasions, customs, and beliefs
Linguistic Goals:
to describe images; to tell a descriptive narrative; to write an application email; to write promotional material; to describe routines; to discuss problems, a variety of topics, and how to deal with various situations; to write a discussion essay; to give a short presentation; to take turns in interviews and formal conversations; to write a film review; to listen to and discuss a wide range of audio materials (monologues, interviews, podcasts, news reports etc.)
Structural Goals:
simple and continuous verb forms - to talk about routine habits, repeated actions, temporary or incomplete actions; participle clauses - to add more information to a sentence; speculation and deduction - to say how certain or probable something is in the future, present or past; cleft sentences - to correct, emphasise or point out information; conditionals - to talk about things that are possible or likely, or imaginary and unreal situations; gerunds and infinitives - distinguishing which form of the verb to use; ellipsis and substitution - to avoid repetition; passive and reporting verbs - to make generalisations about what most people say or think
