We live in an age of religious and secular pluralism, in which many people adhere to many incompatible belief systems. Religious as well as secular communities make claims to knowledge. The idea of knowledge raises important questions that we will discuss in the course. Are these ideas fundamentally intolerant or arrogant, or can they ever be tolerant and humble? If religious creeds, traditions, and scriptures are at all capable of being true, what sort of truth is at issue? Are religious doctrines or creeds justified at all given the abundance of alternative worldviews, and what justificatory role (if any) can the authority of religious tradition still play in a pluralistic world?
