You are familiar enough with the Greek language to be able to continue learning independently (with a workbook). You will also have acquired basic knowledge of philological and philosophical-historical resources (dictionaries, lexicons, online tools, etc.), textual transmission, and the use of scholarly text-critical editions. You will also be able to find the corresponding wording in the Greek original when translating to German and vice versa.

Introduction to ancient Greek specifically for philosophy students: Alphabet, reading and writing, vocabulary work, grammar, translation of texts, use of scholarly dictionaries and text editions, and treatment of some of the central concepts of Greek philosophy, especially metaphysics. Special attention will be given to philosophical terminology and the ability to critically examine translations of it.

The course is intended for students with no prior knowledge of Greek. Since it is a language course, the willingness to study along on a weekly basis is assumed.
