602043 SE Ethics of Lifestyle
winter semester 2023/2024 | Last update: 24.05.2023 | Place course on memo listBasic knowledge of the concepts, methods, issues and theories of the philosophy of the good life; in-depth knowledge of selected issues and theories as well as the ability to present the same in written and oral form in an understandable way; formation of ethical problem awareness.
A philosophy of the good life cannot be a mere collection of useful tips. Since its basis is the self-selection or the reflective self-relation of the individual person, the respective life strategies must result from this self-selection. Nevertheless, very different philosophical approaches strive to provide general descriptions of successful human life.
The texts discussed in the seminar range from antiquity to the present, raising very different questions, such as how to deal with one's own emotions, the role of temporality, the meaning of suffering and death. Questions of justice and obligations towards others are also necessarily part of it. In addition, the fundamental question of how important philosophy itself is for the good life - and how important the question of the good life is for philosophy - will be explored.
