• Knowledge about gender-specific aspects in relation to sport and exercise
• Knowledge about differences of sex and gender regarding influences on health and society

Sport is one of the last major areas in our society where sex is a determinant factor of participation in sport with potentially far-reaching consequences for health, development, and performance. In this lecture we will explore the difference between sex as biological gender and gender as sociological gender and the connections to sport and exercise.

The following contents will be discussed:

1) Historical background and definition of sex and gender in society and sport.

2) Intersex and sextesting in sports

3) Coping and management with and of gender-specific performance in sports

4) Gender in health/disease and following treatment approaches in training therapy

5) The role of gender in sport

6) Trend- and adventure sports as a possibility to overcome gender barriers

7) Influences of gender in children and adolescents in sport and physical activity behavior

Lecture with participation and discussion possibilities.

Written assessment at the last day of the lecture (held in presence)
