Anything Turns: Objects Tell Stories: The Material Turn in Historiography

In the course of the cultural turn, the materiality of history has received increased attention in recent decades. The impact of historical objects is also reflected in the success of Neil MacGregor's "A History of the World in 100 Objects". Objects/things as sources can be every day, consumer or luxury items and often stand in close contexts of their use and collection. They offer a variety of insights into the past, which means that it is particularly important to develop the historical backgrounds in which they stand. The course offers an in-depth methodological introduction to material culture studies. This is then applied to the historical analysis of historical objects and their collection contexts. The course takes place in cooperation with the Zeughaus, the Ferdinandeum and the Tiroler Volkskunstmuseum.

Seminar discussions, oral and written presentations by participants, essay.

Oral and written presentations.
