Ability to independently make a research-based analysis and contextualisation of a topic in Austrian History according to scientific rules; skills to independently research and evaluate topic-relevant sources and secondary literature; consolidated skills in writing of historic papers (formulation, giving of reasons and defending arguments).
Opened in 1880 at the Bergisel, the Kaiserjägermuseum is closely linked to Tyrol's historiography. Not only the location, which commemorates the battles of 1809, but also the collection holdings have to do with the narrative of Tyrol as a "nation of defence".
It was only a few years ago that the museum opened up to newer approaches together with its archive. This now allows a variety of approaches that can be incorporated into a bachelor's thesis. Those interested in museology may want to analyse past exhibitions or design a new one. Objects lend themselves to an investigation of material culture. Archival holdings - be they written documents or photographs - can be analysed using approaches such as gender history, "Alltagsgeschichte" (history of the everyday) or new military history. The archive itself can also become an object of study.
We are working together with Christian Kofler (Kaiserjägermuseum), who will familiarise us with the holdings in the museum and the archive.
The seminar assists and supports the Bachelor's Thesis regarding working skills and content. Short lectures, reading, discussing of articles and interactive presentations by the students.
Course with continuous assessment: regular attendance of the sessions, exercises, active participation in discussions, interactive oral presentations, written concept and Bachelor's Thesis (about 30 pages).
Basic literature will be announced in the lessons. Research of further literature is part of the students' tasks.
Positive assessment of one module from the elective modules 7 to 12. The respective proof ought to be produced until the end of October 2023.
