The seminar will provide an overview of psychological research in the area of moral distress and moral injury. Students will be able to differentiate between morally stressful conditions and the experience of morally moral injury and gain insight into the extension of trauma concepts including the component of trust. In addition, participants will be able to identify challenges in the operationalization of the constructs, taking into account individual, social, and societal factors of influence. Students will demonstrate their ability to critically evaluate methodological challenges in the assessment of moral distress and moral injury. 

During the course, students will gain an overview of the methods and findings of research on moral transgressions as well as potential consequences of moral distress and moral injury. Existing differences between individual, organizational, and societal conceptualizations and models will be investigated. Qualitative as well as quantitative research approaches of causes, experiences and risk factors of moral distress and moral violation will be elaborated, critically evaluated and discussed. Current research literature will be compiled and elaborated independently by the students.

The schedule for this seminar includes oral presentations (presentation of research articles) and plenary discussions.
