The objective is to provide an introduction into the basics of structural design. The course will provide historical, cultural and contemporary techical facts about building design. Designing and building a structural bearing model will provide insight into structural building processes.
The lecture covers the following topics:
- form and structure
- history of building materials
- basics of static design and structural bearing design
- building requirements
- building envelope requirements
- development and construction of bearing structure
- laboratory tests and analysis
Presentation with power point, simple calculation exemples on the board, artisanel exercises by modelling in groups of 3 or 4 students.
The évaluation will be based on the handcraft exercise and on a written examen testing general contents.
