Knowledge of one of the most important martyrological texts of the early church
The Passio Perpetuae et Felicitatis from Christian North Africa (around 200) is one of the most important martyrological texts of the early church. It is of considerable importance not only for the theology of martyrdom, but also for the early Christian ideas about the afterlife, as it contains the beginnings of an idea of purgatory. The autobiographically stylized vision narratives of Perpetua are also very attractive.
