Exemplary examination of a central topic at the intersection of literature and media studies. Independent reflection and analysis of the roll of different media for the production, distribution and reception of literature based on profound knowledge.

How are play and storytelling connected? To what extent are there forms of playful storytelling or narrative play? How do different media formats move between these two poles? What significance does play also have for the understanding of media (e.g. literature, social media, fan fiction)? Is there a connection between creativity and play?
The course aims to approach the interplay and convergence of the concepts of play and storytelling from multiple perspectives. Both the level of production and reception will be examined. A special focus will be placed on media formats in which games and narratives (hypertext, adventure books, role-playing games, computer games) are combined. However, this will be supplemented by a media-theoretical and media-historical perspective.
