To encourage a critical approach to and appreciation of texts (journalistic, literary etc), and to practise discursive and critical writing modes and summary-writing skills.

Diverse texts of a more challenging nature. Argumentative essays and critical reviews.

Intensive analysis of more complex texts focusing on argumentative techniques and points of view. In-class analyses of students’ texts and perfection of effective discursive writing techniques. More complex summaries.

A 1,000-word research essay and a final written exam.
