611518 VU Contrasting and Applied Linguistics: Linguistic Pragmatics
summer semester 2024 | Last update: 26.06.2024 | Place course on memo listStudents have basic knowledge of concepts and theories of linguistic pragmatics, can discuss them critically, and apply them to Romance languages.
In the first part of the course, we will discuss basic concepts and theories of linguistic pragmatics, including speech acts, the cooperative principle and maxims of conversation, implicatures, presuppositions, and deixis. In the second part of the course, we will focus on specific pragmatic phenomena in concrete communication situations, such as mitigation phenomena, speech acts like the act of requesting, or particles and discourse markers in spoken language.
Lecture, discussion and application exercises, presentation and discussion of the analysis results, reading
written or oral exam, short presentations, active participation
will be given in class
