612015 VU Selected Aspects of Eastern European, Central European and Southeastern European Cultures and Societies: Exploring Europe by Reading: Dnipro/Dniepr
summer semester 2024 | Last update: 08.02.2024 | Place course on memo listStudents will be familiar with the main literary works dealing with the Dnipro/Dnieper; together with the course leader they will produce a literary travel guide to be published in the series "Europa Erlesen" by Wieser Verlag in Klagenfurt.
Research, collection, selection, translation and discussion of fictional texts, travelogues and cultural-historical documents dealing with the most important Ukrainian river Dnipro / Dnjepr. The aim is to publish a German-language anthology that illustrates the interpretations of this river and the experiences made by travellers from many countries, residents in many regions, but also forced labourers during the construction of dams in exemplary text excerpts. The book will be a kind of literary travel guide and will be published under the title Dnipro/Dnjepr in the "Europa Erlesen" series by Wieser Verlag Klagenfurt. As many literatures as possible will be included, with German, Ukrainian and Russian (in German translations) expected to be dominant.
In addition, students will be familiarised with the specific production conditions of a book (keywords: publication rights, limitation of rights, etc.)
Input from the course leader, independent research by participants, selection and discussion of texts, possible translation of foreign-language texts into German; collaborative compilation of the volume
Students are expected to actively engage in research, discussion, selection and translation of texts (into German) as well as to work in teams and cooperate with all participants.
