622014 SE Seminar Contemporary History: Regional history policy and remembrance culture - themes and projects in Tyrol over the past decade

They understand and evaluate them as well as argument with regards to scientific dynamics and trends. They understand the strengths and weaknesses of the different methodological approaches. They gain competences in independent formulating of questions and argumentations.
Over the past ten years there have been a number of historical-political discussions and cultural remembrance projects at regional level in Tyrol: starting with the critical examination of the Nazi involvement of so-called "folk culture", dealing with the Hall institutional cemetery and forced sterilizations, various community histories, research on deserters and desertion, the history of Innsbruck University, the construction history of the Gau/Landhaus, the redesign of the memorial for the former Reichenau camp and the reappraisal of abuse cases in state and church homes. The seminar deals with these topics and the associated historical-political and memory-cultural framework conditions. In close cooperation with the Innsbruck City Archive/City Museum, an exhibition will be developed which will be shown in public spaces in Innsbruck.
Lecture, reading, discussion.
Regular attendance, active participation in discussions, required readings, oral presentation, development of an element for an exhibition in public space.
Will be provided at the beginning of the course.
