Ability to independently make a research-based analysis and contextualisation of a topic in Ancient History according to scientific rules; skills to independently research and evaluate topic-relevant sources and secondary literature; consolidated skills in writing of historic papers (formulation, giving of reasons and defending arguments)
The seminar focuses on the diverse ancient tradition of cities and urban centers in the Near East, Egypt and the Mediterranean region. The sources deal with aspects such as social structures, urban architecture and central functions and reveal concepts of cities as an expression of historical and political perception. The ancient tradition will be critically analyzed in the seminar.
Combination of lecture, reading tasks and sessions, short presentations and group work.
Oral presentation and written tasks.
Literature will be announced during the course.
