Acquisition of advanced knowledge of selected topics of epochs and scientific discussion thereof

The lecture introduces students to ancient urban development and examines urban life as an expression of dynamic social processes. Various facets of urban life in antiquity, such as housing culture and the food situation, education and entertainment, religious practice, political and economic conditions are dealt with, taking gender relations into account. Idealized ideas of a 'beautiful' life in the city are critically questioned.
