Students undertake assisted research of sources and/or test their source-critical skills. They present their results in different media formats.

"People have to eat and drink" (Thomas Nipperdey) - there is no way around this basic truth, even with the strictest diet, in any era of human history. What was eating and drinking like in the Middle Ages? What did the different population groups and social classes have on the table? What was eaten and drunk? What changes did food and drink undergo during the Middle Ages? What was "the potato of the Middle Ages"? What did food look like for the peasants, the burghers, the nobility and the monastery? Who looked after the poorest of the poor? These few questions alone show how intensively the topic of "eating and drinking" penetrates the social conditions of the Middle Ages and how much we can learn about "the Middle Ages" through this channel.

Thematic introductions, practical exercises, short presentations; group work, discussions.

Compulsory attendance, students must participate in class and do practical exercises at home.
