summer semester 2024 | Last update: 03.01.2024 | Place course on memo listStudents expand their knowledge of recognising, assessing and explaining different forms of historical display. They deepen their skills in presenting historical contexts on site and deconstructing forms of presentation.
We deal with and discuss selected aspects of the social history of Upper Lusatia in Saxony at historical locations. The thematic focus is on the Sorbian minority, open-cast lignite mining, socio-economic and ecological structural change, borders and (forced) migration, changing political systems, political justice and prosecution by the Nazis and the Stasi. We are supported on site by the Sorbian Institute.
Local guided tours, presentations from the course instructor as well as from students.

Successful completion of obligatory module 1
The excursion starts and ends in Bautzen: 9 September (Monday evening) to 14 September 2024 (Saturday morning). Attendance at the UE of the same name is compulsory. The estimated costs will be approximately € 350 (to be paid in advance by 10 March 2024, without university contribution) and include 5 nights in a hotel with breakfast in a shared room as well as the costs for museum admission and guided tours. Not included is the journey to Bautzen, which will be organised individually, and public transport.
