Ability to independently analyze and contextualize a topic from economic and social history according to the rules of the discipline; ability to independently research and evaluate sources and secondary literature relevant to the topic; solid competencies in writing historical essays (formulating, justifying and defending arguments).

The seminar deals with the medical care of the population in the rural Alpine region of historical Tyrol. In addition to the concepts of health and illness, the competences of the various health professions and the organisation of medical institutions will be reconstructed. On the one hand, the focus is on historical actors (patients, doctors, surgeons, midwives, pharmacists, lay healers and professional groups that only developed in the 20th century, such as physiotherapists, speech- and occupational therapists). On the other hand, we trace the development of medical institutions in historical Tyrol.

The seminar supports and accompanies the Bachelor thesis in terms of work and content: input from the course instructor, joint reading and discussion of scientific essays, written exercises, oral presentations.

Course immanent to the examination: regular attendance, active participation in discussions, oral presentation, composing and discussing a written concept and a Bachelor Thesis.

To be discussed at the outset of the course. Research of literature is also a part of the students' tasks.
