Students are able to identify the museum as a medium for knowledge production and understand its importance and role in society. Students know about various aspects of current research on diversity and can apply their knowledge in practice in different methods of cultural mediation within the museum. Students can read scientific texts and present the outcome of their conceptual work. They will receive insights into the working field of cultural mediation und curation. 

This seminar is based on current societal discourses on diversity and diversity research. Students will discuss various aspects concerning the portrayal of diversity in different media, specifically within the museum. We will look at the specific role of museums, so-called “Wunderkammern” and chambers of horrors. In collaboration with Schloss Ambras, students will work on questions regarding the exhibition of diversity and learn how to complement the work of cultural mediation with scientific support.
