Students in this course obtain an overview of some current questions and methods of higher algebra and discrete mathematics. Moreover, they have developed a deeper understanding of algebra and discrete mathematics and are capable of analyzing and solving typical problems from these areas.

This course covers the fundamentals of algebraic geometry. Concretely, we will study systems of polynomial equations and affine varieties, Hilbert's Nullstellensatz, projective varieties, dimension, all illustrated and motivated through numerous examples.
