Students will aquire basic knowledge of contact mechanics and friction. This covers the study of the underlying processes at different length scales (macroscale, surface scale, atomar scale). Students learn about friction coefficients as well their dependence on properties at finer scales.

Friction and lubrication:

1) Coulomb´s friction law – the macroscale

2) Rougness and contact – surfaces

3) Adhesion – atomar interaction

4) Friction and lubrication
