This course offers in depth insights into cancer research with a focus on the broad spectrum of biochemical approaches and technologies used in the field. The students will actively explore the work and challenges of scientists from different methodological disciplines focusing on metabolic signalling analyses, computational modelling and bio-ethics.
Main learning goals. The students:
- have a sound overview of the biochemical methodology and tools used in cancer research and can apply their knowledge in new contexts.
- are able to delineate the main strategies and basic techniques of their research field, based on the analysis of scientific articles from different disciplines.
- can apply and transfer these strategies to a multidisciplinary context, derive standpoints, and comparatively discuss those using scientifically sound arguments.
- can define their own moral position in a research field, come to joint core statements and recommendations for action and develop suggestions/ advice for (political) actions
- Understanding cancer through the biochemical kaleidoscope
- Repertoire of biochemical methods and applied research projects
- Science communication
- Lecture combined with group work (expert groups)
- The acquired knowledge will be presented in a final conference
- Assessment is based on oral and written participation throughout the semester
- Course examination according to § 7, statute section on “study-law regulations”.
