Analysis of the growth of a filamentous fungus in bioreactor batch culture illustrated by Penicillium ochrochloron.

In close relation to ongoing research (research-driven teaching) the growth of the filamentous fungus Penicillium ochrochloron in bioreactor batch culture is analysed. The possibility to repeat the bioreactor run facilitates, on the one hand, the learning of methods, and emphasizes, on the other hand, the importance of the standardization of cultivation conditions. Measured variables are biomass (various methods), glucose, ammonium, phosphate, oxygen consumption, CO2 production, and excreted protons as well as organic acids. The actual questions to be investigated are worked out together with the participants. Further information is available at http://wiki.uibk.ac.at/display/microbiology/WIKI+Bereich+Mikrobiologie

Research driven teaching; operation of a 2 Liter biorecator; analysis of medium components; analysis of excreted metabolites

General preliminary meeting date: March 4, 2024; 11:00-11:45 am HS F
