Students should be able to recognize and diagnose a somatoform/psychosomatic disorder in order to discuss and decide possible interventions.

Diseases are multifactorial events in which both physical, psychic and social factors are important in emergence, process and therapy. These factors play different weighty roles in the diverse stages of disease. Based on the psychological theory of science of the biopsychosocial model (Thure von Uexküll) different explanatory models will be discussed and specific somatoform/psychosomatic disorders (such as pain disorder, conversion disorder, etc.) will be clarified.

Furthermore the therapist-patient-relationship will be thematized which plays a particular role in the treatment of this spectrum disorder. Possible intervention techniques will be discussed.

Continuous assessment (based on regular written and/or oral contribution by participants).

presentation and seminar paper
