720277 SE Clinical-psychological disorders: Schizophrenia in children and adolescents
summer semester 2024 | Last update: 13.11.2023 | Place course on memo listThe aim of this seminar is to discuss studies on the prodromal symptoms, etiological aspects and intervention in children and adolescents with schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders. Furthermore we will discuss developmental issues and new directions to assess and treat psychotic disorders in young age groups.
This seminar focuses on the debate about an early diagnosis and early intervention of schizophrenia and psychotic disorders in children and adolescents. Current studies on the prodromal phase and the diagnosis of schizophrenia in childhood and adolescence as well as etiological aspects in the field of genetics and neurobiology will be presented. The path of diagnosing schizophrenia in young people can be very challenging and is a topic of much controversy because other conditions can have similar symptoms (i.e. bipolar disorders, autism, drug abuse) and the condition is still poorly understood.
Based on the presentation of clinical case studies, students will learn to explore the current assessment procedures and treatment situation of inpatients with psychotic disorders
