Students get to know four central therapeutic approaches in cognitive behavioral therapy theoretically and in practice. The basics will be applied to clinical cases and executed under supervision. At the end of the course participants will have some personal experience with the techniques.

4 blocks with 3 units each (Friday 8-13.00) will have a single topic each: 1. Exposition (confrontation) techniques (example anxiety disorders and obsessive compulsive disorders), 2. Cognitive therapy (example depression), 3. Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT; example borderline personality disorder) and 4. Schema therapy as emotion-focused work with early maladaptive schemas

Groups (in general 3 persons) will present 1. the basics of the method and 2. its application to a case example. The second half of the block will be dedicated to practical excercises with the presented techniques, which can include personal therapy elements in small groups and role plays in small groups under supervision to allow a maximum of participants to practice the role of therapists.

The assessment includes the presentation, the paper with the summary of the approach (group) as well as personal participation.

The literature will be announced in the preliminary discussion and includes German and English contributions on basic principles, empirical studies and therapy manuals.
