Students acquire knowledge about the "basic techniques" of clinical-psychoanalytic practice: equal attention - free association; transference - countertransference, rêverie and containing according to Bion.

They are sensitized for Muslim cultural elements and have become acquainted with intervention techniques for mental illness through the example of the Ottoman/Turkish medical history. Recognize of connections between psychoanalysis and migration/exile/guest work. Insights into the psychoanalytic work with patients from Muslim cultural areas, based on the intercultural scientific literature and the psychoanalytic practice of the lecturer. 

The development of psychoanalysis is closely related to migration experiences. Sigmund Freud himself and many psychoanalyst from the first hour suffered from flight and exil because of the National Socialism. War and poverty actually force people also to leave the familiar surroundings and restructure their lives. In the clinical practice, psychic illness and internal sufferings are important factors and can be a challenge for psychotherapists. Especially for the treatment of patients from Muslim cultural areas, a sensitized understanding of their cultural, religious, socio-economic and collective-biographical backgrounds is very helfpul.
