800915 SE Gender and Science: Intersectionality - A critical concept in Gender Studies?!
summer semester 2024 | Last update: 04.03.2024 | Place course on memo listThe participants have basic knowledge of intersectionality theories (with a focus on gender studies) and the associated debates. They are able to reflect on their research practice against this background.
Intersectionality has been a buzzword (Davis 2008) in gender research for over a decade, and it has now arrived in the feminist mainstream (Lawforth-Smith / Phelan 2021). But what are the origins of this concept? How can it be understood and reconstructed as a critical project? The seminar is dedicated to this topic in two blocks. First, the basics of the intersectionality debate are developed and discussed - using central original texts from black feminism, related debates and theoretical developments of the concept. Building on this, the practical application of intersectionality-theoretical findings in research practice will be reflected.
