Students gain experience in dealing with peer reviews of scientific publications in the context of their own dissertation projects or under an interdisciplinary focus; they receive mutual feedback and tips from the course instructors on the basis of already successfully published works; this course is a supplement to the course "Publishing Research Papers" (845957) and focuses in particular on the peer review process of scientific papers on the focus "Natural Hazards in Mountain Regions"

In the course, the most important principles in dealing with and preparing peer reviews of scientific papers will be presented and discussed on the basis of examples; in addition, two peer reviews will be prepared individually by the students and the course instructors for selected (if possible, own) manuscripts; the results will be presented in the seminar and discussed together.

Presentation of the basics of the peer review process by the course leaders; joint discussion of selected peer reviews;
independent examination of a scientific text and preparation of a peer review; presentation and discussion of own work in plenary; feedback session.

Immanent

Will be provided at the beginning of the course.

Participation in the IDC „Natural Hazards in Mountain Regions“; PhD-thesis topic with the focus on natural hazards in mountain regions.
