Participants will first learn about the concept of 'lieux de mémoires' (Erinnerungsorte) and transculturality through digital formats and a workshop in Innsbruck and then during an excursion week in Slovenia. The seminar is intended for practising independent research and intensive discussion and is itself part of a larger research project. The aim is to understand the multi-layered transcultural and translinguistic relationships that affect the national identity of Slovenia and Austria in particular and the EU in general. The concept of 'lieux de mémoires' is to be reflected upon in the context of the student's own dissertation project. In addition, intercultural competence and global knowledge are to be promoted by spending a week together with international students and teachers in Slovenia. The trips will be realised using public transport in accordance with the principle of sustainability. The Blendend format also enables inclusive, intercultural communication and increases virtual mobility. The IRO supports up to 10 doctoral students, paying accommodation and catering costs of up to 560 euros.

Probably no other neighboring countries have such a drastic problem of common places of rememberance as Slovenia and Austria. On current national coinage, postage stamps or banknotes - now no longer in use - these places of rememberance appear as symbols that both countries claim for themselves. Obviously, Slovenes* and Austrians* share many of these "long-lived, generational crystallization points of collective memory and identity that are embedded in social, cultural and political customs and that change as the way they are perceived, appropiated, applied, and transmitted changes. The courde focuses less on the historical core and more on the forms of memory afterwards - with an emphasis on literature. The aim is to mesure not the often nationally appropiated and instrumentalized juxtaposition - the respective complexity of the overlapping cultures of memory in Slovenia and Austria. The participants from Innsbruck will also discuss and reflect in writing on the significance of the concept for their respective projects.
