In this lecture we deal with basic concepts of media communication and analytical approaches to it, including reflections of media change. In the course of the lecture we deal with basic concepts from the field of media communication (e.g. media, mediality, communication, interaction, multimodality, text type) and discuss them in detail. Analytical approaches to different modalities (text, spoken language, image, video, etc.) will be presented as well as their combinations in complex media communication processes. Current empirical results and research from different areas of media communication (e.g. newspapers, television, radio, digital platforms, interpersonal digital communication) will be discussed and reflected critically.
