In this course students obtain skills in media analysis and gain basic knowledge of media systems in Eastern and South-Eastern European countries - with a focus on Russia and Russian-language media outside Russia.

The course focuses on media in Eastern and South Eastern Europe (print media, radio, television, internet media). Students will gain an overview of these media, analyse current political and social issues and how they are conveyed in the media, question propaganda and fake news. Apart from this, they learn methods of analysis and how to apply these methods.In addition, they are encouraged to read / watch media in different languages - German, English and Slavic languages.

Lectures, short presentations by the students, discussion of texts

Regular attendance, participation in class discussions, short presentations

Due to the substantially different allocation of ECTS credits in the curriculum BA Slavonic Studies 2015 and in the curriculum BA Slavonic Studies 2024, there are different requirements for this course. You will receive information on this from the course instructor at the beginning of the course.
