Graduates of this course should have developed a basic understanding of the night sky and its changes over the course of the year. They should have gained initial experience in observing and knowledge of the available tools and modern sources of information.

The sky: visibility of the moon, planets, constellations, deep-sky objects; useful astronomical software: planetarium software, astronomical databases; sources of astronomical information; night observations with a telescope; solar observations using solar projection and an Halpha solar telescope; current astronomical topics: a look behind the press releases
